by Melinda Smith

There are a lot of dog treats which we could give our pets. There are those which we can purchase from the marketplace or alternatively, we can choose to make them ourselves. Producing our own dog treats will yield us peace of mind about the safety of our pets' food. This is something that no manufactured dog food, regardless of the price or reputation, could give us. We only want the best for our pets because we love them as our family members. We don't want a scenario where our dog's wellness is compromised by food poisoning due to substandard manufactured dog food.

In giving dog treats to our pets, there is only one measure - can we actually consume the food ourselves? If yes, then we're behaving as responsible pet owners towards our dogs. However, if the answer is no, then we may be behaving irresponsibly and perhaps we should reconsider what we are feeding them. Our great love for our dogs requires that we only generate them food that we ourselves would actually eat.

In cooking homemade dog food, we must only utilize organic foods. By doing so, we are preserving the health systems of our pets which can also lengthen their lives. Using organic foods has been proven to increase the stamina and the wellness of our pets. They'll end up fitter, and more energetic.

It would be ideal if we use lamb meat for our homemade dog food. In the alternative, we can also use beef or pork so long as we avoid the fattiest portions. We should also make a conscious campaign to ward off additives and preservatives such MSG or those which can induce an allergic reaction for our dogs. We must as well be very careful to leave out whatsoever bones since they are potential choking hazards for our pets.

All of us love our dogs and it is no empty rhetoric that dogs have been tagged as man's best friend. They are always by our side to give us companionship and give us solace. They provide us lots of love, affection, and companionship in spite of the times when we turn them away. Would it be humane to give back this loyalty by feeding them substandard dog food that is commonly full of extenders, or can we find it within our hearts to express our love by making them their personal home made dog food?

Homemade dog food and dog treats are far superior in comparison to using commercially available ones in feeding our pets.
