Emetophobia and Hypnotism
Many people suffer from emetophobia, yet this phobia is rarely discussed in the open. This phobia is defined as a fear of vomit. Sufferers with serious emetophobia will do anything to avoid vomiting or seeing vomit. Although people with emetophobia usually cope by avoiding the source of their fear, it can be completely eliminated using treatments like Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Emetophobia is an extremely common fear with significant consequences for its sufferers. Some people will not dine at restaurants or with other people out of fear of acquiring food poisoning. Expecting mothers with emetophobia are often terrified of having morning sickness. The fear also makes it difficult for parents to raise their newborns or care for their young kids if they fall ill.
Emetophobia can affect an individual's ability and willingness to go on trips and vacations. A phobia sufferer might dread the thought of traveling to a distant country and catching an illness. Many phobia sufferers avoid public areas because they are afraid of falling ill or just witnessing another person getting sick. The condition also affects one's ability to hold jobs in certain fields, such as nursing and hospital work.
The phobia is often rooted in childhood cases of vomiting. Emetophobics may remember the unpleasant feeling of being ill and wish to avoid it at all times. They may also fear getting ill because they link it with a lack of physical control. This phobia affects a wide range of people.
Emetophobia can escalate into other phobias and anxiety disorders. Many sufferers will develop agoraphobia, a fear of unknown places which can drive a person to become a "shut-in." People with emetophobia may also develop a deep fear of germs. What starts as the fear of vomit can quickly grow into many conditions caused by the first fear.
Some sufferers try to cope with their fear by avoiding it whenever possible, but emetophobia can be successfully treated with options ranging from therapy to medication. However, there are a number of challenges involved with treating emetophobia. Over time, the phobia becomes linked with strong negative imagery in the unconscious mind. The feeling is so deeply set that it cannot be regulated by willpower or conscious effort alone. Sufferers may realize that their fear is overblown, yet still feel powerless to do anything about their fear.
Hypnosis therapy is a perfect tool for treating phobias because it can dissociate a fear from negative imagery within the unconscious mind. It is an excellent type of safe and non-invasive therapy that provides a permanent phobia cure.
Hypnotic treatments often take the form of a program broken down into many, easy-to-use sessions. A thorough program opens with relaxation therapy. This has a soothing effect and helps make the mind more receptive to hypnosis. Once a person is calm and stress-free, hypnosis guides the unconscious mind into a new, fear-free line of thinking.
Ericksonian hypnosis is ideal for independent minded thinkers, such as the majority of emetophobia sufferers who find it important to have control over their own health and fitness. It works using indirect suggestions integrate in stories, metaphors, and dialogues. It is different from traditional hypnotherapy techniques, which utilize direct post-hypnotic suggestions to treat individual phobias. These conventional techniques may not work because people tend to question and resist direct suggestions. Using Ericksonian hypnosis therapy, these problems can be circumvented.
Since emetophobia is often accompanied by other anxiety disorders such as germophobia and agoraphobia, it is necessary for a good treatment program to work for all these issues. Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques work more effectively than traditional hypnotherapy programs because they are not specific to one phobia; they can be used to treat any phobia, or even more than one phobia. Moreover, more users find success with the combined program because it contains a wide range of techniques to work for anyone.
People are usually pleasantly surprised at how easily they get results using hypnosis. It has allowed many people easily beat their phobias and it is a successful type of phobia treatment. The techniques in Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP are productive treatments for a variety of phobias and anxiety disorders. They are the answer for helping many people overcome their phobias and feel secure and in control.
