What you need to know about Scar Removal

by Martha Fitzharris

A scar will appear where a wound or sore has emerged. It is easily identified as a pinkish or light-brown patch of skin. A scar is made up of fibrous skin tissue that replaces healthy skin. In other words, a scar is the skin's natural way of protecting itself.

Every skin injury or wound heals with a scar. Nonetheless, a scar's appearance may vary according to the extent of the lesion, the type of wound, and the individual's healing process.

Definite scar removal is difficult because scar tissue is not similar to the tissue that it has replaced and is usually of inferior quality. Scar tissue is more vulnerable to UV radiation and has no hair.

Factors affecting scar formation

Many factors affect the severity of scar formation, such as:

1) Wound size and depth.

2) Where a wound is located on the body.

3) The blood supply to the area.

4) Person's age.

5) The thickness, type and color of the person's skin.

Once a scar forms, it is permanent. Nonetheless, a scar can be made less visible with natural scar therapy or surgically procedures.

Scar Treatment Types

*Treatment Keloid Scars: Keloids are scars that extend the edge of a wound or incision. They appear when the body continues to produce fibrous collagen even after the wound has completely healed. They are more common in dark-skinned people and are treated by injecting a steroid medication directly into the scar tissue.

*Hypertrophic scars treatment: These scars, unlike keloids, remain within the limits of the original wound. They often improve on their own, even though it may take a year or more. This type of scar is usually treated with steroid application or, at times, surgical intervention.

*Treatment acne scars: This type of scar can be either depressed or raised. Depressed acne scars develop as a result of loss of skin tissue at the site of injury while those that develop keloids will usually develop raised acne scars. Most acne scars patients will readily use home remedies to treat their acne scars, however, there are more effective means of treatment - topical and surgical procedures.

*Silicone scar therapy: Silicone scar therapy is a medical treatment created for improving the appearance of new and old scars. It is used mostly for post-surgery recovery to help scar tissue heal properly.

*Natural scar therapy: Natural scar therapy implies the use of all-natural products. Most products contain biological ingredients such as emu oil, snail serum, or rosehip oil. These natural ingredients have been used to treat scars in post-operatory patients and burn patients.

Any scar treatment procedure that you choose will depend on a mix of factors. Whether the scar healing treatment is natural scar therapy or surgical will always be determined by the type of scar and your personal and financial needs.
