Severe Forms of Acne: Cystic Acne

by Valerie DeVette

Common acne (acne vulgaris) is a bothersome and, at times, embarrassing skin condition; however, there are more severe forms of acne that can lead to severe, unsightly scarring. Cystic acne is one of the harshest forms of acne. It is imperative to treat this condition as soon as possible.

Cystic acne results when hair follicles are plugged by dead skin cells or by sebum. These blocked pores can lead to the rupture of sebum canals within the hair follicles. As a result, the nearby tissue will swell and lead to boil-like lesions.

As the name implies, cystic acne is characterized by the appearance of pus filled cysts, and these cysts can easily lead to scarring and other serious complications. Generally, the cystic pimple or cystic zit can look like an acne nodule, but it will be filled with pus and be approximately 5 mm in diameter.

The cysts can be very painful and result in severe scarring. Avoid squeezing any acne cyst because that will only take the infection deeper into the skin. This deep infection could, in turn, cause much more pain, inflammation, scarring and a longer healing time.

Cystic Acne Treatment

If you think you may have cystic acne, you should consult a qualified dermatologist as soon as possible. A good dermatologist will be able to recommend the most effective products for this type of acne.

Generally, cystic acne skin care is based on antibiotics and cortisones. If cystic acne is recurrent it can lead to nodular acne or nodulocystic acne. Isotretinoin drugs are used to treat these types of acne to impair the production of sebum.

Regrettably, antibiotics have undesirable side effects and cortisones and isotretionoin drugs can have dreaded consequences. There are many over the counter skin products that can treat both common acne and severe types of acne very effectively.

Over-the-Counter Cystic Acne Treatments

Over the counter treatments are beneficial because they are effective against acne and help you avoid antibiotics, isotretioin and their side effects. The best over the counter acne products are those that have anti-inflammatory effects, do not dry out the skin and restore a healthy moisture balance, while controlling the proliferation of acne bacteria.

These products will allow the skin's natural sebum to flow naturally and not to clog the skin's pores. Remember that clogged pores are the real cause of sebum accumulation within the hair follicles, the inflammation of the cells lining the sebum canals and the consequent proliferation of uncontrolled acne bacteria and thus acne breakouts, pus, cystic acne and ultimately scarring.

The gentle, biological components found in BIO SKIN CARE make it an ideal cystic acne scar treatment. It helps you deal with cystic acne and keep your skin moisturized and healthy. Take care of your skin problems with this natural acne breakouts treatment.
