Ways To Lose Weight With The Cabbage Soup Lifestyle Diet

Losing weight is a hard struggle; naturally, most people are always on the lookout for new ways to take weight off. The Cabbage Soup weight loss trend is known to many dieters as a popular "fad diet" that offers a quick way to lose excess weight, but does it actually work? The diet is explained here, along with the keys to losing weight and keeping it off for good.

The Cabbage Soup diet involves, as the name suggests, consuming cabbage soup for seven days. During this period, dieters only consume reduced cabbage soup and a few other foods to lose weight. The diet is not a lifestyle altering plan like some other well-known diets, and requires no long-term lifestyle changes beyond the week-long duration of the diet plan.

There are many versions of the recipe for cabbage soup. Most contain seasonings, cabbage and other vegetables, such as mushrooms, celery, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Some dieters like to add spicy flavorings to liven up the soup. Other dieters monitoring their sodium intake try to use a reduced-sodium recipe. Many popular versions of the diet include healthy sources of protein to make the diet program more balanced.

Besides the soup, there are highly specific guidelines for which additional foods are permitted on each day. As a general guide, dieters can eat cabbage soup every day, plus fruit on day one, vegetables on the second day, vegetables and fruit on day three, skim milk and bananas on day four, beef and tomatoes on day five, vegetables and beef on day six, and brown rice, vegetables, and fruit juice on the final day. Dieters then revert to regular eating habits, hopefully now weighing a few pounds less.

Is the Cabbage Soup diet really effective for weight loss? Although no formal controlled study has studied the diet conclusively, dieters using the weight loss plan report mixed success. For many dieters, the program resulted in weight loss (up to ten pounds), but only for a limited time, as the pounds gradually returned as the person returned to normal meal plans. Some dieters report light-headedness, lack of focus, and weakness while following the diet. Other dieters experienced no effects whatsoever, seeing no weight loss, but no illness either.

The Cabbage Soup diet program is among countless popular diets that dieters can try. However, because this diet may not be best for all, for many dieters it just adds to the frustration of not being able to lose weight. A better approach to losing weight does not rely on gimmicks or quick-fix dieting. It takes dedicated effort and long-term health commitments to achieve permanent weight loss goals.
