How The South Beach Diet Works
The South Beach diet program is among the most popular ways to lose weight today. It is based around diet and lifestyle changes that help you steadily lose weight. By avoiding "bad" fats and carbohydrates and having plenty of "good" ones, dieters can shed weight without feeling deprived or sacrificing their health.
There are three phases in the diet program. During stage one, dieters avoid all carbohydrates except for vegetables. Although several foods are restricted, dieters still have a wide range of foods they can consume. Stage one is the most demanding stage, but also the quickest since it only goes on for two weeks. Dieters are expected to lose ten pounds during this period.
In phase two, dieters begin reintroducing the previously restricted carb-rich foods into their meals. Dieters are expected to lose one to two pounds per week while steadily raising the amount of carbohydrates they eat. Phase two lasts until dieters achieve their goal weight.
The third phase is the lifetime maintenance stage. Dieters take the strategies from phase two to keep their ideal weight throughout the duration of their lives. If dieters start to regain weight, they may revert back to the first phase of the diet.
It is likely that you've seen pre-packaged South Beach snacks and meals at the supermarket. These foods are very convenient, but you do not need to buy them in order to be on the diet. You only need to follow the different general rules for each stage of the diet.
During stage one of the diet, you may enjoy lean meats, such as chicken, fish, and turkey, eggs, most vegetables, nuts, and a limited amount of dairy products. Fruits and their juices are not eaten during this stage because of their sugar content. Also banned are all carbohydrates, fatty meats, alcohol, and a few vegetables that may have high sugar or carbohydrate content, such as carrots. The objective of this stage is to ban "bad" carbohydrates from your diet and jumpstart the weight loss process.
During the second stage, dieters gradually reintroduce fruit, whole grains, and other banned foods into their diet. In the process, dieters learn how to balance their diet to keep a desirable weight. Once this is successfully accomplished, the diet switches into the life maintenance stage, in which dieters attempt to maintain the healthy strategies that brought them to their goal weight.
The key to success with the South Beach diet plan is committing to eating healthy. Although that seems easy, this diet and many other diet programs fail because dieters give up before the plan can start to work. The difficulties that most people have with weight loss often result from deep-rooted problems such as a lack of inspiration to lose weight, a tendency to go on food binges, or an inability to control the appetite. Fortunately, all of these problems can be resolved with techniques that are easy to learn from a good hypnosis diet CD program.
To treat a lack of motivation, a technique from a tool called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) will give you a strong urge to stay on track with your dieting program.
To begin, dieters pinpoint exactly what things are most important to them, as an individual. This is known as their "highly valued criteria." Then, NLP techniques are practiced to make the dieters feel that by losing weight, their highly valued criteria will benefit greatly. An alternative is to make the dieter feel that if they do not lose weight, their highly valued criteria will be in jeopardy.
Motivation is produced by what we believe, not by logic! So in the above example, let's say that the dieter's most highly valued criterion is that the dieter's children are safe and well. Using an NLP technique known as Submodalities, we can steer the dieter into believing that if he or she is unable to lose weight, the children will be fated to follow the parent's lead and they will also be overweight and dissatisfied. This type of belief will provide a strong desire and feeling to stay committed to the diet and lose weight.
Several NLP techniques can help to reduce or even entirely eliminate the urges and cravings that force one to eat too much. This works very well to help dieters stick to the initial and most difficult weeks of the South Beach diet. Additionally, it helps dieters stick to an exercise program, which will increase the usefulness of any weight loss plan.
Stress is a problem that frequently drives people to eat too much or neglect their health, but relief can be offered by both hypnosis and NLP techniques. One such technique is known as the NLP Flash. With the Flash, having your unconscious mind use stress-causing thoughts as triggers for positive thoughts eliminates the stress that causes the urge to overeat.
Uncontrollable eating habits can also cause men and women to put on weight. A lot of people have apparently uncontrollable appetites because over the years, they have unconsciously developed a "conditioned response" to eat in certain situations. For example, many of us eat in front of the TV even though we are not truly even hungry. Fortunately, NLP and hypnosis have techniques that can quickly extinguish these conditioned behaviors. These techniques eliminate the appetite without pills or drugs.
By targeting the underlying issues that prevent people from losing weight, hypnosis and NLP has helped countless people finally get in the best shape of their lives. Combined with the South Beach plan, dieters may experience natural weight loss and triumph at achieving their fitness goals.
