Recent studies have suggested that human brain is composed of lot of oils. The main source of these oils is found to be only fish. Hence it can be stressed that fish oil is very essential for human health and development. It is believed that our ancestors lived in coastal areas, which helped them to get much of their nutrition from fish, especially shellfish.

Consuming fish oil provides lots of health benefits. Experience has proved that fish oil can prevent cardio-vascular disease by controling blood serum cholesterol and helps control high blood pressure. It can also be used in depression treatment and mental problems such as Alzheimer's disease. Some claim that it could even improve people's memories. Hence one could improve his health by consuming fish oil once in a while.

Omega 3 fatty acids present in fish oil appeals the most to health researchers. These fatty acids are found in negligible quantities in vegetables and fruits and aren't produced within the human body. These fatty acids are essential for normal growth and development of fetus and therefore all pregnant women must take them in proper doses.

Omega 3 deficiency could lead to many health problems in human beings. In addition, fish livers may contain high levels of rentinol - an active form of Vitamin A - which can be dangerous at high doses.

For this reason it is recommended that people take fish oil supplements. They are available in capsule form those who take exception to the taste. They should be certified free of mercury and other dangerous metals and many have been purified so that the body can assimilate them more easily. Omega 3 benefits human health in so many ways that it is frightening to learn that only 2% of the US population is getting the recommend daily amount.

It is especially important for pregnant women to take omega 3 since the development of the unborn child's brain and eyes may suffer if the mother does not consume enough.
